The Witjira Waru Pulka (Fire) Management Strategy (the Strategy) is the first fire management strategy for co-managed lands in South Australia.
Driven by the Board’s cultural aspirations and knowledge it focuses on the reinstatement of cultural fire regimes to improve connection to Country, environmental flows and increase habitat for a number of short range endemic aquatic species.
It facilitated the first cultural burn on co-managed land in South Australia in November 2017. Led by Cultural Ranger and Lower Southern Arrernte Man, Dean Ah Chee we undertook the first management burn to be planned using Aboriginal science combined with western science.
